Like the majority of Monster's headphones, the Solo HDs contain the ControlTalk feature. In the time I've been testing these I've listened to a wide assortment of music from hard rock to hip-hop to Broadway musicals (do not judge!) to painless listening. Unlike the DiddyBeats and Lady Gaga Heartbeats, the Beats Solo seem wonderful across the musical spectrum. Up near where the cord connects to the headphones is usually a little controller that facilitates playback control and also a mic for hands-free calling. The volume/playback manage aspect will only perform using the iPhone and iPod. Yet, the mic works on other brands of smart phone (but not all). I've been utilizing it with my HTC Evo 4G and get that I can talk at a ordinary volume and be heard without having to hold the mic closer to my mouth. And because the 'phones block a whole lot of sounds, I can walk down a busy New York City street and not must scream to become heard or strain to know what's currently being mentioned.
